3D embroidery, also known as raised embroidery or puff embroidery, is a type of custom embroidery and is another popular decoration method for custom logo apparel and custom hats.
3D embroidery uses a foam backing material behind the stitching to create a raised or puff look. 3D embroidery literally stands out and is great for making logos pop.
Not all designs or logos can be produced with 3D embroidery. 3D embroidery works best with simpler logos, basic designs, or team letters. 3D embroidery costs slightly more than flat embroidery due to the foam backing used and additional labor required to create the raised look.
3D embroidery is most popular on custom hats, caps, and beanies, but can also be used on custom apparel including bags, backpacks, and even shirts, or jackets. Since 3D embroidery has a raised surface, is thicker, and weighs slightly more, we recommend regular flat embroidery for most shirts, polos, jackets, and sweatshirts.
Flat embroidery can be combined with 3D embroidery for select logos, so parts of the logo may be embroidered flat and parts of the logo are embroidered 3D.
