5 panel hats have five panels, 6 panel hats have six panels, and 7 panel hats have seven panels. 6 panel hats are the most common and traditional type of hat. 5 panel hats do not have a seam or stitching in the middle and have a larger single front panel. 7 panel hats are trendy and have three panels on the front of the hat (two smaller panels at the top and a sleek larger panel below).
